Creepy Cuteness Galore!

It’s the final week of Black & White with a Pop of Color on Vera Lane! My design team post is filled with fun!

The Girls on the Block were so much fun to paint black and white with just a touch of color.

Products used:

  • Brea Reese– glitter inks and waterbrush pens
  • Cason watercolor paper
  • Paper clips
  • Laminating film
  • Tacky Glue

Click on Girls on the Block thumbnail to get the digistamps.

I absolutely love Eddie Scissorhands! He was definitely suited for the black and white theme.

I only used the Brea Reese black glitter pen to paint him. Just rubbed the ink on my palette and watered it down to get the grays. The topiary is painted with phthalo green watercolor ink and gold glitter ink pen.

The lil monsters were painted with the same Brea Reese black glitter ink pen. I also used orange and crimson glitter inks. Aren’t the just creepy and adorable?!

Click on thumbnail to get the backyard monsters digistamps. Eddie Scissorhands is available by request by messaging Janet Klein on the Vera Lane Studio Etsy store. The Little Witch is also available by request as well.

The little witch digistamp set was painted with Dina Wakely Scribble Sticks. I will do a tutorial on them in the future. She can’t wait until Halloween and I can’t say as I blame her. It’s my favorite time of year!

Hope you enjoyed my design team post this week. Be sure to leave a comment on what you’d like to see on the blog. Also come join us over in the Vera Lane Studio Facebook group We have themed ATC swaps every month!

Listen to Your Art

Technique: Wet on Wet Watercolor

This week I bring you another lil black and white with a pop of color journal page featuring Vera Lane Studio digistamps and Brea Reese Glitter Inks & Texture Paste.

These are the Brea Reese products I used to create the pop of color and texture on my art journal page.

Click the image below to see the video of my process.

Click me to watch the YouTube video:)

You can find Brea Reese products at your local Hobby Lobby in the art section or by contacting them at

Brea Reese products used:

  • Glitter ink- medium magenta
  • Glitter ink- lake blue
  • Glitter ink- cadmium yellow
  • Texture paste- Matte metallic black

I honestly can’t believe how highly pigmented the inks are. I mean for less than $5 per color it’s amazing! You will see in my video above you don’t need much product at all! As for the texture paste, it’s a wonderful way to add a bit of dimension & color to your mixed media projects. Oh and let’s not forget… sparkle too! I used my finger to rub accents of the texture paste near the quote and at the bottom of the page.

There will be a lot more Brea Reese products in my future projects! I can’t wait to show you what I’ve been working on!

Quick overview of my wet on wet watercolor process includes:

  1. Adding water to my journal page.
  2. Adding Brea Reese glitter inks to the area where there only water. The inks won’t travel outside the area with water. It’s amazing watching the colors move and blend together! (Go watch the video!)
  3. Using a heat gun to speed the drying process because I’m impatient 😁

The beautiful digistamp and sentiment, Le Petite Artiste, I used this week is from the Vera Lane Studio Etsy store. Just click the image below to get yours!

I colored her only with Caran d’Ache Neocolors ii in black. I just colored a bit on my nonstick surface with the black water soluble crayon. I added a little bit a water from my waterbrush and just used varying shades of black and gray to color the tiny artist.

We have a themed ATC swap each month over on the Vera Lane Studio Facebook group. This month the theme is Black & White with a Pop of Color and I’m the host! You still have time to join in the fun! The swap concludes at the end of the month.

Black & White ColorPOP

This week over in the Vera Lane Studio Facebook group it is Black & White with a pop of color. In the beginning this was a very challenging theme and then after making a few I absolutely love it! Most of the black and white pieces have only been painted/colored with Neocolor ii water soluble crayons in black. The backgrounds were mostly various watercolor paints or inks.

I made a quick video and posted on my YouTube channel. Click image below and be magically transported there🦄

I am also hosting the ATC swap with the same theme. Below are the two ATCs I made for the swap. If you’re reading this you should come join the group!

Click on thumbnails below to be taken to the VLS Etsy store to get the digistamps I used in my creations.

Hope you enjoyed my post this week.

Magical Creatures on Vera Lane

This week over at Vera Lane Studio there has been a sighting of some magical creatures!

Janet released an awesome set featuring a Pegasus and unicorn!!

The art journal pages above I created a drippy Watercolor background with Tim Holtz distress oxides and Lindy’s Magicals. Click the images below to get the sets I used above.

The ATC above I put together in photoshop by layering the unicorn over the rainbow before printing. Neocolors ii were used to make this baby bright and beautiful!

I also made a mini pocket letter with the new releases! I created an image that was 5 inches wide and 3.5 inches tall. Colored it with my Neocolors ii and then cut the image in half. Perfect 2.5 x 3.5 ATC size! Added a little unicorn ribbon on the side and a few glittery hearts to complete the mini masterpiece. Just add goodies to the back of the pockets and send to your pal!

Hope you enjoyed the post today…

iYoga and Cuteness!

One of my projects for this week I made a divider for my mini Happy Planner featuring digistamps from the iYoga set from Vera Lane Studio.

Above you can see the progression of this simple project that took a little less than two hours to complete. I used Neocolors ii to color her and the flower. The background was made using distress oxides and a stencil. I do apologize for not taking more pics but I was coloring and painting and just forgot.

She is available by request only from the Vera Lane Studio Etsy store. Just click image above.

I made a few more projects with the iYoga set. A couple of ATCs. The top one is a sneak peek for a project coming up next week over on the Vera Lane Studio Facebook group. You should come join the fun!

I also made a card with The Cutest Little Girl digistamp set.

She’s just a lil ATC I painted and added to a premade card and inked the edges with distress oxides. She is available by request from Vera Lane Studio.

Hope you enjoyed my post today!

Tall Town!

This week over at Vera Lane Studio Tall Town digistamps were released! The photo above is a page in my Dylusions art journal. I used Tim Holtz distress oxides for the background. The Tall Town digistamps were colored with Caran d’Ache Neocolor II water soluble crayons. The City Girl was colored with Koi Watercolor Brush Pens. I also added a few highlights with my white Posca paint pen.

I also made a tag bookmark with the Coffee House from Tall Town. I again use Tim Holtz distress oxides to create the background. Little Ruby (from the Ruby and Romeo set. Not currently in the store but can be purchased by request only from Vera Lane Studio) is painted with Tim Holtz distress markers.

Click on images below to visit Vera Lane Studio on Etsy to purchase the digistamps I used in my art journal.

Hope you enjoyed my lil post today! Don’t forget to tag me in what you create as well!

This week over at the Vera Lane Studio group on Facebook it’s Wings week! My design team creations are a mixture of several Vera Lane Studio residents and the wings set.

I will step through each one below. You will find links to get the digistamp sets as well. It’s so much fun mixing up various sets!

Above it looks like Lydia must be dreaming she’s a butterfly with those massive beautiful wings! I used mostly Tim Holtz distress inks to paint her and the wings. The background was made using the distress oxides. A little bit of washi was added to accent the background.

This colorful creature is from the Calacas collection. I used only Neocolor II to color him. They are a wonderful vibrant water soluble crayon. Think of them as crayons for grownups!

The lil one above is from the Bit by Bit digistamp set. I used Koi watercolor markers to color her and her wings. The background was created using Tim Holtz distress oxides and again I added some rainbow washi tape. Final detailing with the Posca white paint pen.

Hayes, our resident zombie hottie got some very widespread wings. Hayes, like Calacas above, was colored with Neocolor II water soluble crayons.

Just click on the images below to be taken directly to the Vera Lane Studio Etsy store.

Let me know if you have any questions, what you would like to see in the future or anything… I love hearing from you all!
